THE GREAT AND THE GRAND: READING

The Great and the Grand is a participatory performance project inspired by our ‘grandad cabaret’ Rendezvous in Bratislava.
Travelling around the UK, we work with participants who identify as 1st-, 2nd- and 3rd-generation migrants to create many more time-travelling music theatre performances, this time featuring stories of participants’ own grandparents, performed by the participants themselves.
Thanks to seed funding from Farnham Maltings’ New Popular, we were able to develop this idea in Autumn 2019 in partnership with South Street Arts in Reading and local community centres.
The result was Great and the Grand: Reading: the first fruits of a new musical, ritual and storytelling framework that can be adapted for any location and group of participants.
